Whether you’re arriving from out of town, crossing the city, or heading out from home, a little planning leaves more time to enjoy your visit. Choose your stops, compare the distances, and decide how you’ll travel between them.

Driving & parking

Choose your first destination before setting out, then check the route from your actual starting point. South San Antonio covers a broad area, so a park, shop, or hotel may be several miles from your next stop. For Brooks visits, enter the specific business or destination address.

Allow time for parking and follow posted signs at each location. Use TxDOT’s DriveTexas map to check construction, closures, and road conditions.

Public transportation

Use VIA Metropolitan Transit’s trip planner and current schedules to compare routes, transfers, and walking distances. Enter both your starting address and the exact place you want to visit.

Check the return trip before heading out. Service and stop locations vary by destination; one route may not cover every place on your list.

Visiting the missions

The national park’s four missions are separate sites: Concepción, San José, San Juan, and Espada. They are roughly two to three miles apart, with free parking at each mission.

Mission San José, at 6701 San Jose Drive, is home to the park’s visitor center. Use the National Park Service trip planner for directions and current transportation information.

Walking & cycling

Choose a manageable stretch of the river or a park trail, and plan where you’ll start and finish. A short walk at one destination can fit easily into a day that includes driving or transit.

Check trail conditions and access before leaving. Mission Reach paths can close during high water. Bring water, allow for sun and heat, and compare distances with the time you have.

Flying into San Antonio

If you’re arriving at San Antonio International Airport, choose your ground transportation around your destination and travel plans. Review the airport’s official information for rideshare pickup arrangements.

Allow for travel across the city and check your route to your hotel or first stop. Confirm pickup instructions in your booking app and follow airport signs.

Access & pickup plans

Before visiting, check the destination’s information about accessible parking, entrances, paths, and restrooms. For the missions, the National Park Service provides site-specific mobility information.

If using a taxi or rideshare, agree on a clear pickup point and plan your return ride. Confirm any individual access needs directly with the destination.
